There are so many clothes, but there is nothing to wear. That sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Especially given that it is impossible to take everything with you on a trip. So, let’s fill the suitcase only with the essentials.
Shoes and clothes
Women can hardly do without high heels, but make sure you have a pair of comfortable trainers and loafers. You will be thankful for the advice, because most of the time you will spend wearing comfortable shoes. It’s much easier for men - they can forget to take dress shoes, but never forget their sneakers).
Common beach set:
• Swimsuits, swimming trunks
• Good sunglasses
• Sunscreen cream (not less than SPF 30), aftersun cream, moisturizing lotion and, if possible, a sunburn remedy in case you overdo it with sunbathing.
• Sunhat, baseball cap or any other headwear that protects from sunstrokes.
• Beach sandals
• Beach towels
Of course, some of the above can be bought on the spot without breaking the bank, for example, flip-flops, a towel, or a hat. But as far as sun care cosmetics, it is better to bring it with you. The brand you need may not be available locally.
Most suitable clothes are shorts, light trousers, a skirt, or a dress. You should not dress too revealingly outside the place of residence. Turkish Cypriots are not bigots. The society of Northern Cyprus is quite secular, but you should be mindful of certain expectations.
It is worth taking with you clothes which make you feel comfortable in a restaurant or club. Do not forget that the most popular clubs and casinos in Northern Cyprus have a dress code.
Just in case, do not forget a light jacket, sweater, wrap. At night, especially in spring and autumn, it is cool. If you are taking a trip in the winter, then you will need waterproof shoes and a demi-season jacket.
Cosmetics and personal care:
Soaps and shampoos are always available at hotels and residential complexes. Of course, they are not always the ones you are used to. The same story is with a range of cosmetics in local stores. So, it is better to take all the necessary cosmetics and hygiene products with you, as there is no guarantee that that you will be able to purchase what you want.
Photography and video equipment:
Perhaps, you only use your smartphone. But a few prefer more professional equipment. In Northern Cyprus, you can take amazing shots. Just do not forget to declare expensive equipment upon entry and keep the declaration until departure.
Electrical outlets and mains voltage:
In Northern Cyprus, the wall sockets are normally of the U.K. standard, three flat pin type. The adapter won’t be amiss. Of course, if you have forgotten it, you can buy it locally, but why waste money?
A tee-connector will also be useful, as you may find less outlets in your room or apartment than you may need. Therefore, it can be problematic to charge several gadgets at the same time without a tee.
Keep in mind that the voltage in the network here is 240 volts. Make sure that the devices and gadgets you take with you support this standard.
Other Useful little things:
Spare batteries and chargers for equipment and gadgets, a large-volume flash drive, wipes for cleaning screens and optics, a folding penknife, needle threads, nail scissors, etc., can also be useful. Do not forget to put all the sharp or pointy objects in the checked luggage. They will not be allowed in a carry-on luggage.
First aid box:
This should be the item no. 1 on our list. There should be everything you may need during your trip: sanitizer, plaster, anti-febrile, analgesic, sedative, remedies for intestinal upset, mosquito repellent. Remember that your first aid kit should not have any prohibited substances and ingredients.
Some of the medicines you need can be bought at local pharmacies. But, keep in mind, they can be called differently here, and of course, a timing is everything. This is especially true of the upset remedy.
If you need to take a special medication all the time, bring your medical prescription and medical order with you. So, you can avoid unnecessary questions when crossing the border.
