Volunteers carefully examine the beaches, find clutches, protect them, and watch them until the moment the cubs appear, protecting them from predators and careless vacationers.
In July and August, usually at sunset, the baby turtles hatch from their eggs and crawl towards the water. This is very spectaculous and you can watch it with your own eyes.
On which beaches can one meet sea turtles and their offspring?
Akdeniz Caretta beach
The word Caretta in the original name of the beach indicates the type of turtles that have preferred this beach. The beach is located quite far from the main roads. It is more complicated to reach there compared to other beaches. Nests are not always fenced. Be careful.
Golden beach
This is the famous beach on the Karpaz peninsula. It got its name from the fine golden sand on the coast. In the rays of the setting sun, the beach really seems golden. Some sea turtles choose right this beach to leave their offspring. Volunteers do not mark the nests here, so you need to be careful not to step on the clutch.
Alagadi turtle beach
The most famous place, which is acknowledged as a nature reserve. There is no tourism infrastructure here. The beach can be reached by car, but it is not allowed to enter the beach by car. There are garbage containers in the parking lots to discard rubbish or you must take it with you. You can swim and sunbathe on the beach. Turtle nests are fenced. Do not place your belongings close to them. To take part in the process of releasing baby turtles into the sea, you need to book it in advance by calling +90 533 872 53 50.
Kaplica beach
This beach is located at the entrance to the Karpas Peninsula. There are very few turtle clutches here, but if you're lucky, you can see the baby turtles going in their first journey.
At the end of July and throughout August, you can observe the amazing moments of the birth of these marine inhabitants.
