Marriages registered in Northern Cyprus are legal and recognized throughout the world. Though, a certain number of formalities must be settled.
Marriages in Northern Cyprus are officially registered not at the registry office, but at the local municipality.
Therefore, you need to choose in advance the place where you want to get married, submit an application, and provide the required package of documents in advance:
• A certificate from the registry office stating that you are not married or a certificate of divorce;
• Certificate of clean criminal record;
• An extract from the immigration center at your place of residence;
• Passport;
• Medical tests results
This option is also available for those who do not have Northern Cyprus citizenship. The key is, to have the legal status of staying in the country. For foreign citizens, all documents must be translated into Turkish or English, notarized and apostilled.
Other options for a wedding ceremony in Northern Cyprus
Symbolic wedding
Most commonly, this is an outdoor ceremony in a picturesque place, with a festive table, entertainment program, photo shoot session, and other elements, at the request of a couple. Such a ceremony has no legal force. Normally, in this case the couple has already registered the marriage or just wants to refresh their relationship.
Church Wedding
There are Catholic and Orthodox priests in Northern Cyprus who can perform a marriage ceremony, and a valid marriage certificate is required. The wedding must be planned in advance and agreed with the priest on the day.
