Water in Cyprus can be taken both from the water pipeline, which is the responsibility of the local municipality, and from water reservoirs or private water wells.
However, you’d better not drink untested water. In many places there is no central sewerage yet - only septic tanks - and sewage waters can enter water wells.
Therefore, it is better to buy bottled drinking water.

There has always been a shortage of water in Cyprus. Agriculture depends on the amount of rain. Rainwater is collected in special tanks or reservoirs in winter, and then it is used in dry summers. Over the last years, rainfall has been decreased, while water demand has increased. The population is growing, tourists are coming, production is expending.
To reduce dependence on nature and provide Cyprus with water, a 107 km pipeline was built through the Mediterranean Sea from the mountains of Southern Turkey to Northern Cyprus. This pipeline supplies water to the residents of the island.
