Have you decided to buy a property in Northern Cyprus and are going to relocate? Do you have underage children and have no idea where they are going to study? This article will be useful to you.

Education at system here is divided into 2 sections:

  • government schools and colleges;
  • private fee-paying schools and colleges.

Getting education in government schools is absolutely free of charge. We also want to point out that if you are a foreign national who has obtained the TRNC Residence Permit , you are entitled to enroll your child in a government school free without paying any fees.

Private schools and colleges charge fees. An average fee varies from 1 500$ – 2 500$ per academic year, depending on the age of the student and the establishment itself. There are private schools and colleges with higher tuition fees. You can choose the most suitable option, depending on your preferences and financial capacities.

Both government and private schools boast high standards of teaching and educational process, which are controlled by the TRNC Ministry of Education throughout the academic year.

Curriculum in schools is fascinating. Students learn 3-4 foreign languages in many educational institutions. A lot of time is dedicated to studying English – 2-4 classes a day (no surprise, as English is a means of instruction in many universities of Northern Cyprus, and most entrance exams are held in English, too).

Besides paying great attention to studying foreign languages, schools also teach robotics, ecology and even horse-riding, so it won't be a problem to choose extracurricular activities and keep your child occupied.

Many schools use the Montessori Method which places premium on sensorial education (the development of senses) with the help of child-led activities in a specially organized environment. This method, by the way, is very popular in Cyprus.

To summarize:

  • you can choose between government and private educational institutions
  • the standard of education is very high
  • the educational institutions provide the most up-to-date curricula and high standard of teaching
