Most people consider the warm sun and gentle sea to be the landmark of Northern Cyprus. However, we should not forget about the fruits of the island.
Spring
This is a season for:
- Citrus fruits: oranges, mandoras, lemons, limes, mineolas, grapefruits, several species of tangerines, pomelo, and other local species.
- Strawberries, that come into berry from the beginning of spring to the end of the year.
- Medlar, that is a healthy, fleshy, and tasty fruit, available until the end of May.
- Watermelons and melons: ripen in mid-May and berry until the end of August.
- Sweet cherries ripen from mid-May to mid-June. The season is short.
Summer
Well, you might have already understood that all the fruits that ripen in late spring are also available during the summer.
In June, you can also feast on apricots, nectarines and peaches. From mid-July grapes appear. In August, pears, apples, plums, kiwi, green figs, mangoes, and prickly-pear cactus fruits ripen.
Apricots appear in early June and are sold until the end of July. The Kaishia specie is considered the most valuable. These apricots are smaller in size than other species, but very tasty. Unlike other species, this one has a very short season: only two weeks from the beginning of June.
Autumn
In addition to plums, apples, grapes, melons, mangoes, kiwis, and green figs, start from September in the Cyprus fruit basket appear guava, pomegranates, dark figs, persimmons, and winter citrus fruits.
Winter
The fruit season on the island never ends. Bananas are ripening and the active citrus season continues.
So, in any season, local fresh fruits are waiting for you on the island. Of course, overseas fruits are also available in supermarkets all year round, but local ones are much tastier.
